Music Video Analysis.

Beyonce - ' If I were a boy' music video contains approximately 96 shots. There is many close up of shots of 'the meat' - Beyonce these shots show alot of facial emotion and expression especially the image (second row, image two) with a tear falling down her face. Medium shots, two shots, establishing shots and cross cutting is used in this video. The images and lyrics relate to eachother, Beyonce is telling the story through her lyrics, whilst the images represent the movement and what is happening. The song is about a girl who got cheated on or played,
and shes confessing what she thinks is the perfect boy,
and that if she was one, those would be the things she would do and the things she would not. Beyonce at the beginning of the video is shown in her boyfriends shoes, and he is saw in Beyonces and how she see's things then eventually the roles switch back and the audience realize how Beyonce acts is how her boyfriend treats her.

Deconstruction of an Album Cover.

Beyonce's album is particularly interesting due to the fact that she has an alter ego, as she is known as 'Sasha Fierce' then also known as 'Beyonce'. The album cover shows Beyonce in a black and white contrast medium shot looking natural with her hands gracefully behind the back of her head with her hair brushed back off her face to reveal her flawless skin. Also no clothes are seen which possibly could be nudity which is another possible relation due to her being 'naked' meaning its her ' Sasha Fierce'. By being herself this could be a relationship to the title ' I am Sasha Fierce' and showing her audience who she really is.

The font style looks very thin,sharp and italic which suits the lyrics to Beyonce's songs on this actual album. The cover illustrates innocence,and her songs are who she is, the target audience could be aimed for people of any ages, and also any sex due to her image and lyrics. It is classified as a dual disc album; the first disc I Am… incorporates slow and mid-tempo R&B ballads and pop songs whilst the second disc Sasha Fierce, named after Beyoncé's alter ego, contains more uptempo danceable songs.

The back cover(to the left) shows Beyonce looking more ' Fierce' which can be related to ' Sasha Fierce'. She is striking a pose which can be seen as sharp movement and focused, this shows Beyonce in a different light to her audience due to the innocence of the front cover. The digi-pack of Beyonce's album of the inside sleeve (image above) includes an image of her in a tight leather suit, this is to appeal to her audience to help promote the album. The iconography portrays her as a strong, independant woman. Throughout the front cover, inside sleeve and back cover the main focus is of the images of Beyonce, with the writing shaped around her.

Album Cover Analysis.

What are the typical features that an album cover has?

The typical features of an album are usually the title of the artist, in a specific font and colour with a image associated with the album or the artist themselves. The album cover image usually relates to the text, however sometimes cartoons are used also, the audience can tell by the style of the font what type of music the artist seems to be. The features of the album are to help promote the artist/artists.

How would you categorize the covers in front of you? Are there any other ways of distinguishing between them other than generically?

I would categorize the covers by the different genre's, the first image is Beyonce of which is Pop genre she is the 'meat' saw in magazines and is favoured by her audience she is usually saw in revealing outfits, however Lil Wayne is Rap/Gangster who is saw wearing 'bling' and a vest with baggy jeans or trousers with a more aggressive appearance. Kanye West is a R'n'B genre. However the last two images are contrasted, as The Courteeners are indie. From the album covers it can be distinguished which genre is which by the style of font and images used.

Album Covers serve many different functions. What do you think these are?

I think one of the main functions are to promote and advertise the album so it is successful in the selling industry and to make the artist successful.

Prelim Task.

This was my preliminary task, of were we had to lip sync our video to the song. I used Final Cut to sync our lip movement

in time with the song.
